About Us

In 1974, the Athens Housing Authority applied for and received a grant of $5,000 to start a senior center and Charlotte Inman was hired as Director.  The first facility was located in the Clem Jones Activity building and McMinn County Senior Citizens, Inc. soon became a non-profit organization. In 1976, the facility was moved to the Athens Housing Authority building where attendance grew until an addition was needed to accommodate the growing number of seniors participating in activities.  The number of members continued to increase until this facility was also too small.  After many years of planning and labor, our current  Activity Center was completed in 1998. This beautiful facility is located in Athens at the corner of Park Street and McMinn Avenue.
